I'm so excited to let everyone know that we have renegotiated the Hyatt room rates for the Friday before the conference and the Friday and Saturday after the conference. Now you can come early and stay late to see all Washington has to offer! The new rate for those nights is only $99 per night.

We will be having a Friday night Shabbat dinner and a Saturday dinner and Havdallah. We are working to have a very special Shabbat Scholar in Residence. Stay tuned to find out who it will be!

Washington, D.C. To Be Invaded

Be warned!  Washington, D.C., will soon be invaded! No, not by insects. The invaders will walk on two legs and for one week in August 2011; they will cause the Jewish population of the city to increase by about 1,400. The genealogists are coming! The genealogists are coming!

From August 14 to 19, 2011, the attendees of the 31st IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy will fill the Grand Hyatt Washington. They will invade the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Archives, the Library of Congress, the DAR and even the Masonic Temple. What we know about the invaders is that they are passionate and some might say that their passion and doggedness have resulted in addiction to research, old photographs, and documents.

Every day for the six days of the conference, there will be lectures (about 6 every hour and a half), a Film Festival, meetings of Special Interest Groups and Birds of a Feather, breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, a Repository Fair and so much more.

Central to this event will be an amazing Resource Room. More than thirty computers will facilitate connectivity to the best and finest databases and websites that are loaded with lists, indexes, articles, photos and such goodies as fill a genealogist's dreams. There will also be reference books and maps galore. We will also have a Vendor Showcase in a prominent location in the conference area.
